Globus#
Transferring and sharing files can be a major bottleneck in data workflows. Globus allows users to automate file transfer between data storage and compute systems as well as share data with other Globus users quickly and securely. Using Globus to transfer your data will allow you to:
- Transfer data quickly by maximizing network bandwidth
- Save time by resuming interrupted transfers and re-trying failed transfers
- Maintain data integrity by comparing checksums when your file transfer is complete
- Eliminate delays in your workflow by automating data movement
Northwestern currently provides Globus collections for data stored in the following locations:
- RDSS/FSMResFiles via Quest: limited to users who have both RDSS/FSMResFiles access and Quest accounts
- Northwestern OneDrive/Sharepoint
- Amazon S3
Transferring restricted data
Most Northwestern Globus collections should not be used to transfer legally and contractually restricted data, such as data subject to HIPAA.
High assurance collections have additional security features such as more frequent authentication, detailed logging, and required encryption during transit that allow users to transfer sensitive data. Please use only high assurance collections to transfer sensitive data.
- See Access Data Using Collections to find out which Northwestern managed collections are high assurance.
- See Protecting Sensitive information for more information on handling sensitive data.
- Email globus-help@northwestern.edu for help transferring restricted data from storage systems that do not have high assurance collections.
